Some have heard that the TGA approved psilocybin and MDMA for medical use in Australia. This page is intended to help you understand the current status of these medicines in Australia.

These medicines must currently be prescribed by a psychiatrist (who is an authorised prescriber) ONLY for treatment resistant Major Depressive Disorder or PTSD. Once prescribed by an authorised psychiatrist, the treatment protocol most commonly used is 12 weeks of intensive therapy, supported by 3 medicine days at an authorised clinic. Currently the protocol has two therapists for each of the three preparation sessions, the three medicine days and the nine integration sessions (12 in total). Due to the intensive nature of this work, it is very costly.

There are clinics in every state that offer these services and when you call there will be an intake that looks at the inclusion (diagnosis) and exclusion criteria.  It is important to be honest in these calls as these are very powerful medicines and to benefit from them you must be prepared and be in a context that will support you.

As a private practice we are not authorised to offer psychedelic assisted therapy. There are no exceptions to this as it is currently against the law to do so.

As Claudette works as a Psychedelic Assisted Therapist in a private clinic, she has had the training necessary to offer integration services for those who have had their own psychedelic experiences or catastrophes.  There is also group integration available.  Please reach out by email if this is something you need more information on.
